Public Hearing

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Byram, Mississippi will hold a public hearing to give the citizens of this city an opportunity to provide comments regarding the establishment of election districts from which members of the Board of Aldermen will be elected. The public hearing will be held in the Board Room at Byram City Hall, 5901 Terry Road, Byram, Mississippi during the regularly scheduled meeting of February 22, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen have developed proposed plans to establish equally apportioned election districts for the election of members of the Board of Aldermen based on the 2020 Census data.  Federal law requires that the population of election districts vary no more than ten (10%) percent to insure equal representation and compliance with the one person, one vote requirement of the United States Constitution.  The proposed election districts have been established to comply with this requirement.

Copies of the existing election district, and four proposed ward maps are attached here. Any interested party desiring to view a large scale paper copy pf the proposed plans establishing election districts may do so during regular office hours at Byram City Hall, 5901 Terry Road, Byram, Mississippi.  The map of proposed election districts and corresponding demographic data are available for review. The public is invited to review the plans of proposed election districts and to attend this hearing and offer comments.
